Immediate Past-President Sally Hasell
Sally Hasell, PhD in Immunology and a MSc(Hons) in microbiology from Otago. Currently a partner in Hasell Consulting Ltd. My involvement with the food industry began when I became manager of the public health laboratory in Christchurch in 1982, testing food for compliance with microbiological standards and investigating food contamination and foodborne illness events. I joined NZIFST in 1985, became a Fellow in 1992 and received the JC Andrews award in 2000. Much of my working life has been spent in the area of food safety and my involvement has been from all aspects – food industry, including dairy; as a service provider (ESR), regulator (FSANZ and NZFSA) and a teacher (Christchurch Polytechnic). These days my focus is mostly on food regulation and the science that underpins science based regulation. I am strongly committed to raising the community’s understanding of science and technology, especially in the area of food.

Toni Hunt has a Masters in Dairy Science & Technology and a BSc in microbiology from Massey University. She has recently taken up a position of Technical Account Manager for Orica Chemnet. Toni joined DIANZ in 1998, and was on the organising committee for the 2001 DIANZ conference held in New Plymouth. Toni is Chairperson of the NZIFST Dairy Division, President of DIANZ, and was previously the Dairy Division awards officer. She believes that the Institute needs to continue its work in providing tangible benefits to its members. The challenge is to provide members with opportunities and benefits that they would not otherwise be able to access.
