NZIFST Food Industry EXCELLENCE Awards 2013
The New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology FOOD INDUSTRY EXCELLENCE AWARDS:
recognize human excellence in leadership, innovation, eco-efficiency and service to the New Zealand food industry,
promote and foster these qualities, and
enhance the Institute’s involvement with industry.
These awards are open to any company or employee of any sector of the New Zealand food and beverage industry. You do not have to be a member of the NZIFST.
The AWARD CATEGORIES are:
EXCELLENCE in INNOVATION
EXCELLENCE in ECO-EFFICIENCY (Sponsored by ECOLAB)
EXCELLENCE in LEADERSHIP (Sponsored by Jasol)
EXCELLENCE in SERVICE or SUPPLY
The finalists in each award will be announced prior to the annual NZIFST Conference Awards Dinner each June/July. The winner in each award will be announced at the Dinner and will receive a trophy and $2,000 cash prize.
Applications/Nominations for the 2013 awards are now closed. Winners will be announced 3rd July in Hastings

This award acknowledges exceptional individual or group performance that enabled a recent and significant food industry innovation. The award recognises human excellence in effecting innovation, and not the innovation per se. Examples of qualifying innovations in a food industry operation are implementing new-to-the organisation developments in:
Product
Technology
Business approach
Any other aspect that provides superior value delivery to stakeholders

EXCELLENCE in ECO-EFFICIENCY (Sponsored by ECOLAB)
This award recognises exceptional individual or group contribution to achieving resource efficiencies in a New Zealand food business, and particularly changed organisational culture that embeds eco-efficiency in the business. Examples of qualifying activities are changes in processing systems, operating practices or technologies that result in favourable environmental outcomes, through reduction, recovery or re-use. Example outcomes might be significant reductions in:
Water usage
Solid or liquid waste disposal
Energy use
Greenhouse gas emissions
Chemical usage

EXCELLENCE in LEADERSHIP (Sponsored by JASOL) This award recognises an individual or lead-team for leadership excellence during exceptional circumstances, or for a notably sustained period. The context for exemplary leadership might be:
Emergency or disaster response
Effecting difficult change management
Directing a challenging and critical project
Motivating a group to deliver exceptional achievement
Showing leadership beyond expectations for the position and/or experience level
Sustained leadership excellence over a prolonged period

EXCELLENCE in SUPPLY or SERVICE (Sponsored by NZIFST)
This award recognises exceptional support provided by a supplier to a member or members of the New Zealand food industry. The award will be made to the individual or team that best exemplifies the customer service ethic by delivering service levels beyond reasonable expectations in a supply or service relationship. Examples of qualifying situations might include:
Exemplary service under exceptional circumstances
Reliability or responsiveness beyond normal expected levels
Creating new value for the client
Exceptional commitment to complaint resolution
