School for Supervisors ofLOW-ACID CANNED FOODThermal Processing Systems
Massey University Institute of Food, Nutrition and Human Health will be running their annual School for Supervisors of Low-Acid Canned Food Thermal Processing Systems at the FoodBowl, 2-6 July 2012.
The course will be based on the 7th edition of the manual "Canned Foods: Principles of Thermal Process Control, Acidification and Container Closure Evaluation". The course, which is approved by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA), is designed by the Science and Education Foundation of the GMA/FPA (Grocery Manufacturers Association/Food Products Association), Washington D C. The course covers relevant food microbiology principles, the design and control of a range of thermal processing systems (from the classic batch steam retort to aseptic processing), the principles of food plant sanitation, recordkeeping, and the design and handling of food containers for thermal processing.
The NZFSA considers people who have passed this course to be competent under New Zealand legislation to supervise thermal processes for low-acid food. The course will incorporate a tour of the FoodBowl’s facilities, which include a state-of-the-art horizontal agitating retort. If you are interested in attending the course, please contact either Helen Poole (h.poole@massey.ac.nz) or Dr Owen McCarthy (o.mccarthy@massey.ac.nz) at Massey University, Palmerston North. Registrations close on 15 June 2012. (back to top)
Novel Processing Technologies - a survey The Food Safety Working Group (FSWG) of CIGR (http://redsicura.es/fswg-cig/) would like to compile information regarding novel processing technologies that are currently being developed around the world. The members of FSWG have prepared a survey to collect information from food professionals that belong to different professional groups (academic institutions, government departments, non-government organisations, food companies, international organisations, etc.) located in different countries of North and South America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia, and Africa.
The survey will assist FSWG to evaluate the role that novel food processing technologies and innovations can play to address global food safety issues and challenges, and to analyze commercial applications of novel technologies and theirlevel of development in different countries and continents. FSWG would really appreciate if you could complete thissurvey that consists of 19 questions and a few multiple choice questions. The survey can be found at this link: EN: http://agr.sondages-surveys.ca/surveys/AAFC/food-safety-working-group-fswg-cigr/langeng/ Please copy and paste it to your browser if the link does not work. FSWG will appreciate it if you can forward this to other colleagues around the world.
Thank you very much for your time and cooperation. Food Safety Working Group
