FOOD SAFETY FORUM - Discount for Members
The 11th Annual Food Safety Forum on 28-29 March 2012 at the Crowne Plaza, Auckland, will look towards industry regulation and best practice and discuss how to improve food safety.
There will be participation from both industry and research institutions through presentations from Frucor, Delmaine, Lion Nathan, ESR, The University of Auckland and AUT University as well as NZIFST members Dr Sally Hasell, Past President of NZIFST and Jonathan Cox from Hellers.
Several key themes will be discussed throughout the forum:
Recent regulatory developments will be examined including the Food Act, the Food Code and Fair Trading Act prosecutions.
Managing your organisation’s supply chain is inherently important so product recalls, NPD, HACCP and disease outbreaks will be discussed.
Advice surrounding auditing and implementing food safety programmes will be provided.
A full day MASTERCLASS is a new addition for 2012; this Masterclass will concentrate on managing your supply chain to help assure the quality of your products.

AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS
NZIFST invites nominations from/for young scientists to present a paper at the 16th IUFoST World Congress of Food Science and Technology, August 5 – 9, 2012 in Brazil.
In 2010 we supported Eustina Oh to the Congress in South Africa.
IUFoST will give SEVEN YOUNG SCIENTISTS the unprecedented opportunity to address this world community of food science and technology.
The young scientists will be in their first position of a permanent nature and not more than five years beyond completion of their PhD. For nomination details please contact rosemary@nzifst.org.nz

PROJECTS WANTED FOR FOOD TECH STUDENTS
Industry sponsored projects for 2012 are required for food technology students at Massey University. Projects can include research of a specific problem or the development of a new product or process. The student uses and integrates their skills gained from previous years study in research, product development, experimental design, process design, economic evaluation, project management and communication to complete the project. A written report and an oral presentation is provided to the sponsor along with prototypes and other outputs that allow the sponsor to apply the results and recommendations generated by the student. Project costs to the sponsor are typically $2,000. Intellectual property generated to the project is given to the sponsor.
Projects begin March and are completed in November by students at both Albany and Palmerston North campuses. In addition students from Singapore are completing the Food Technology taught by Massey University. Students begin their projects in Singapore in March and complete their projects three months full time in Palmerston North or Albany from June to August.

NZIFST CRASH COURSE SERIES - Professional Development
Creating Food Labels from Scratch This first Crash Course for 2012 will be in sunny Nelson. 15 February, Cawthron Training Room, 1.00pm - 4.30pm This course will cover the mandatory requirements for food products to be compliant with the ANZ Food Standards Code (ANZFSC).
