In 2009, when she was in Year 12 at Saint Kentigern College, Kate Morris participated in the NZIFST/CREST Student Product Development Challenge. Kate's team was mentored by Shelley Banham, a Product Development Technologist from Griffins Foods. Seven years and a food technology degree later, Kate's now working with Shelley, as a Product Development Technologist at Griffins.

Professors Emeriti Dick and Mary Earle, who made a huge contribution to developing the biotechnology and food technology degrees at Massey University in the 1960s, established the Edna Waddell Scholarships in 2008, to encourage women to study engineering and technology.
